Turkey Pot Pie

January 9, 2015

Turkey Pot Pie Can you believe I’m still trying to use up the turkey I made for Thanksgiving? That’s what happens when you roast a 14-pound bird for two people and a little pup. I chopped up one breast to throw in a Cobb salad and the other for turkey noodle soup. I even turned the carcass into turkey jook. And after making these petite turkey pot pies, I’m down to the neck and wings….

Caprese Pull-Apart Bread

January 7, 2015

Caprese Pull-Apart Bread_top Never have I ever met a pull-apart bread I didn’t like. From the sweet to the savory and the orderly to the unruly, there’s something magical about these loaves, the way the pieces of dough soak up flavor like a sponge, fit together and fuse….

Double-Layer Chocolate Cake with Baileys Buttercream

January 3, 2015

Double-Layer Chocolate Cake with Baileys Buttercream And just like that, it’s 2015! Can you believe it? I wasn’t even awake to usher in the new year. Sadly, I was in bed and asleep by 9 p.m. – that’s what happens when you have a few glasses of wine with dinner while under the weather. The good news? Craisin Cinnamon-Swirl Bread One of my favorite things about the holidays – besides the abundance of sugary treats, festive decor and good cheer – is having extra time to bake. And bake I did, though not nearly as much as I anticipated. It’s just as well … our cupboards and freezer are stuffed with sweets….

Salted Bourbon Caramel Apple Pie-Faits

December 26, 2014

Bourbon Caramel Apple Pie-Fait Christmas may be over, but if you’re lucky, there’s some leftover pie hiding in the fridge. Instead of fighting over that last piece or two with your brother, mother or significant other, stretch it and make pie-faits! It’s a must if you love what my dad calls “the good stuff” (aka whipped cream)….

Kalua Pork and Cabbage

December 22, 2014

Kalua Pork and Cabbage Confession: I’d never used a slow cooker until two Saturdays ago. The main reason? I didn’t own nor feel compelled to buy one. But then my mom forced her vintage Rival 3.5-quart Crock-Pot on me because “it was just collecting dust in the pantry.” I reluctantly accepted the gift and tucked it away in a kitchen cupboard where it sat idle for weeks….
