Orange Almond Cookie Granola

April 18, 2014

Orange Almond Cookie Granola It was a good day. Not only did I get out of work a bit early for the Easter holiday, but I also received a call from one of my absolute favorite lifestyle brands. I’m trying not to get too excited because I don’t know what will come of the conversation, but the fact that the call even happened was extremely flattering – definitely a bright spot in the six weeks I’ve been blogging. (Has it only already been six weeks?)…

Smoked Salmon Quiche

April 16, 2014

Smoked Salmon Quiche Around Christmas, my dad (a dentist) usually gets one or two gourmet gift baskets from his patients. And every year, the entire family (Dad, Mom, brother and me) has fun rifling through the little boxes and bags of treats we would never buy for ourselves. The cookies, chocolates and assorted candies always go first, and then the nuts and crackers….

Caramelized Banana Ice Cream

April 14, 2014

Caramelized Banana Ice Cream I discovered one-ingredient ice cream earlier this year when I was looking for a way to use up a bunch of very ripe bananas. Banana bread was the obvious choice, but I felt like something a little different. The “ice cream” (i.e., frozen and puréed bananas) hit the spot. One taste and I was kicking myself for not coming across the recipe sooner….

Cinnamon Crumb Coffee Cake Muffins

April 13, 2014

Cinnamon Crumb Coffee Cake Muffins I first fell in love with coffee cake at Hobee’s years and years ago. If you’ve ever been to this Silicon Valley staple, you know about their “World-Famous Blueberry Coffeecake.” It’s light and fluffy and piled high with crumbs (the mark of a true New York-style coffee cake). Paired with a cup of hot coffee, it could be a meal in and of itself….

Crispy Baked French Fries

April 11, 2014

Baked French Fries Who can resist a good french fry? I, for one, can. It’s not that I don’t enjoy these salty, deep-fried spuds every now and again, but I can just as easily do without them. These crispy baked french fries, however, are a different matter. I could eat these lightly seasoned potatoes by the handful. And because they’re roasted and not fried, you won’t feel guilty doing so (unless you’re on a no- or low-carb diet, of course)….

My Poor Yorkie

April 10, 2014

Rookie Without Six Teeth Today, Rookie, our 6-year old yorkie, went to the vet to get her teeth cleaned for the second time. We kept putting off the appointment because (1) it’s scary having her put under anesthesia (she’s only 3.5 pounds) and (2) it’s pretty pricey. But knowing a deep dental cleaning could help prevent future health problems, we finally made the call….
