Slightly Spicy Tomato Sauce
 
 
Makes about 3½ cups
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ cup chopped black olives
  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed and drained
  • 2 Calabrian chiles in oil, removed from oil and chopped
  • ½ teaspoon dried chili flakes
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt, plus more, to taste
  • 2 14.5 oz. cans fire roasted crushed tomatoes
Instructions
  1. In a medium sauce pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and add olives, capers, Calabrian chiles, chili flakes and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute.
  3. Add tomatoes and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 25 minutes. Season with additional salt to taste.
