My Favorite Homemade Pizza Sauce

Makes about 3½ cups
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 28 oz. can whole peeled tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt, plus more, to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
  1. In a medium sauce pan, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add tomatoes with juice, crushing with your hands as you add them, thyme, oregano and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Transfer mixture to a food processor and pulse until sauce reaches desired consistency. Pour mixture back into the sauce pan and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
